Summer of antibiotics...

So you spent most of June and part of July fighting sinus infections and now you're fighting another infection baby girl! I'm so sorry you've had to deal with these issues this summer. We headed to the doctor Monday night because of fevers and you just were not acting like Janna. When you don't care to eat or drink, something is badly wrong. Afterall, we are talking about the girl who ate a plate of spaghetti and a cup of yogurt just minutes before being diagnosed with pneumonia last December! The doctor on call checked you out and was surprised to find...NOTHING! Well, i knew that wasn't right. As bad as i hated to ask, i'm the one (after we could NOT get you to pee in a cup) who suggested testing your urine. Me and daddy hated to see you go through that as we helped to hold you down. Your urine looked clear and the initial test was good - boy did that make me feel worse for having the doctor catherterize you.

So, they sent us on our way saying it must be 'viral'. The next morning i got a call at work and low and behold, your urine culture grew overnight. As bad as i hate that you have an infection, i knew in my heart that you did. the times before when you were taken off of Lasix, you had back to back UTIs - you were 6 months old then. by this day you are refusing to eat at all and will barely take a sip of water. you've missed 2 doses of heart medicine by now and so the doctor called you in and grandma took you for those two painful shots of antibiotics - at least they stuck you with both at the same time. She said that you cried for 15 minutes afterwards - you never cry more than 15 seconds after shots but they said these kind are pretty painful, plus you were burning up with fever and not feeling too well. So grandma held you and you two looked at the traffic through a window as you waited the 20 minutes post injections to make sure you'd not have a reaction.

Now we're waiting for a call from Wake Med. They are scheduling you for a VCUG where they put dye in your kidneys/bladder to make sure you are emptying your bladder and that the urine flow is not backing up (kidney reflux). You passed this test just fine at 6 months of age but hey, that was 4 years ago. Dr. Hoover at Goldsboro Peds said that you had enough going on without having to deal with kidney issues and he thinks we need to do this test again since it had been so long. We have to figure out what is going on. Maybe it's just one of those things but i can't figure why it is when you come off of Lasix that you get a UTI. No one seems to think that this has anything to do with it but i sure do! Poor baby girl you've started hurting so bad with this infection that you're walking funny. Mommy and daddy are praying that you can beat this quickly like you usally do with any sickness. We love you!!!

Here you are fighting your first UTI at age 6 months at Wake Med Raleigh.

Cutting up a little much for a sick girl in the hospital :)

Thankfully you avoided the hospital this go round. Here you are at Wake Med summer 2005 with the new 'do' daddy gave you :)
